Same Winter

Same Winter | Sage & Oleander

We’ve been pretty lucky here in Toronto in terms of winter weather. It’s the mildest winter I can remember! On one of the less-mild days I took a trip to the beach (funny how that happens). While Hazel played in the waves I was enamored with the muted colour palette. The rocks also had a slight pink tinge, which perfectly matches the hues I am currently obsessed with (soft pinks, mints, and blues). If you look closely you can see blankets of ice covering the rocks nearest the water. They look almost like perfectly placed fondant.

I got a new pair of glasses this past weekend! Very happy to have something new, my old ones have been around for about 3 years now. I’m so happy with the rounded shape and warm tortoiseshell.

Happy February!

A Sunday Dinner // Brisket

S+O-Brisket-foodphoto1

I’d like to share with you my very first food photo with my new 50mm prime lens! I am so proud of how it turned out for a first try.

This Brisket looks so delicious and it isn’t even cooked yet. Just a little seared on the outside, hugged by all the lovely roasting veggies, and drizzled with balsamic, sea salt, and pepper.

This was such a delicious meal, served up alongside some sauteed broccoli and mashed potatoes. The onions, carrots, celery, garlic, cherry tomatoes, and prunes surrounding the meat turned into the most beautiful sweet caramelized medley of flavours and textures. If you make this recipe, definitely keep those ingredients to serve alongside the meat and sauce. It will make the whole dish so much richer.

For my birthday I got a lovely 50mm prime lens and I wanted to share my first shots with you. I chose my sweet puppy Hazel to be my model. She’s the most gorgeous creature I know, inside and out.

I will be sharing more of my photography and hopefully you will join me in my learning journey. I hope to one day look back on these shots as the beginning of a new world I’ve created.
